DMTF's VMAN Standard Achieves ANSI Adoption

Virtualization Management Specification Becomes American National Standard

DMTF’s Virtualization Management (VMAN) Virtualization Profiles have been adopted as an American National Standard Institute (ANSI) International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) standard. This is a key achievement in DMTF’s efforts to enable industry-wide interoperable cloud and virtual management solutions.

The VMAN standard is comprised of two components: the Open Virtualization Format (OVF) specification, which provides a standard format for packaging and describing virtual machines and applications for deployment across virtualization platforms, and the Virtualization Profiles, which standardize many aspects of the operational management of a virtualized environment. Together, these components deliver broadly supported interoperability and portability standards to virtual computing environments and provide IT managers the freedom to deploy pre-configured solutions across heterogeneous computing networks. OVF was adopted by ANSI separately in 2010. Now that the Virtualization Profiles have also been adopted, the complete DMTF VMAN solution is available through ANSI.

VMAN has been designated as ANSI INCITS 483-2012 and OVF is designated as ANSI INCITS 469-2010. For more information on VMAN, visit http://dmtf.or/standards/vman. For more information on OVF, visit http://dmtf.org/standards/ovf. The ANSI INCITS 483-2012 standard will be available for purchase shortly through the ANSI website at www.ansi.org and INCITS website at www.incits.org.
