Management Initiatives

Management initiatives are built upon DMTF technologies, and deliver functionality to specific vertical applications and industries. Management Initiatives include:

DMTF Technologies (Standards)

Management standards are:

Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM)

WBEM is a set of management and Internet standard technologies developed to unify the management of enterprise computing environments. The WBEM effort includes the WBM protocols and bindings as well as WBEM Infrastructure.

Alert Standard Format (ASF)

This specification defines remote control and alerting interfaces that best serve clients' OS-absent environments.

Open Virtualization Format (OVF)

DMTF’s Open Virtualization Format (OVF) is a packaging standard designed to address the portability and deployment of virtual machines or virtual computer systems.

System Management BIOS (SMBIOS)

The SMBIOS Specification addresses how motherboard and system vendors present management information about their products in a standard format by extending the BIOS interface on x86 architecture systems.

Desktop Management Interface (DMI)

DMI generates a standard framework for managing and tracking components in a desktop pc, notebook or server. Due to the rapid advancement of DMTF technologies, such as CIM, the DMTF defined an "End of Life" process for DMI, which ended March 31, 2005.

Configuration Management Database Federation (CMDBf)

The Configuration Management Database Federation (CMDBf) standard facilitates the sharing of information between configuration management databases (CMDBs) and other management data repositories (MDRs).

Platform Management Components Intercommunication (PMCI) Standards

The PMCI standards provide a comprehensive, common architecture for intercommunications among management subsystem components.
