DMTF

Distributed Management Task Force, Inc.

DMTF enables more effective management of IT systems worldwide.

DMTF 日本

Standards and Technology

DMTF defines management standards supported by numerous hardware, software and services vendors. Standards-based management allows you to select the best products for today without worrying about proprietary hassles in the future.

Featured Effort: DMTF Cloud Management Work Group

Workgroup Formed to Address Management Interoperability for Cloud Systems

Technologies like cloud computing and virtualization are rapidly being adopted by enterprise IT managers to better deliver services to their customers, lower IT costs and improve operational efficiencies.

DMTF’s Cloud Management Work Group (CMWG) will focus on standardizing interactions between cloud environments by developing cloud resource management protocols, packaging formats and security mechanisms to facilitate interoperability.

DMTF Technologies Diagram

DMTF develops management standards for a number of areas including but not limited to:

    • System Management
    • Virtualization Management
    • Cloud Management
    • Network Services Management
    • Platform management subsystem components inter-communications
    • Configuration Management
    • Web-based Enterprise Management
    • Diagnostics
    • Security management

DMTF’s technologies are designed to work together to address the industry’s needs and requirements for interoperable distributed management. These standards provide well-defined interfaces that build upon each other, delivering end-to-end management capabilities and interoperability. The interrelationships between the DMTF technologies in this diagram deliver incremental value throughout the stack, building added value with each additional layer that is implemented.

    Management Initiatives

Management initiatives are built upon DMTF technologies, and deliver functionality to specific vertical applications and industries. Management Initiatives include:

    DMTF Technologies (Standards)

    Management standards are:

    Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM)
WBEM is a set of management and Internet standard technologies developed to unify the management of enterprise computing environments. The WBEM effort includes the WBM protocols and bindings as well as WBEM Infrastructure.
    Alert Standard Format (ASF)
This specification defines remote control and alerting interfaces that best serve clients' OS-absent environments.
    Open Virtualization Format (OVF)
DMTF’s Open Virtualization Format (OVF) is a packaging standard designed to address the portability and deployment of virtual machines or virtual computer systems.
    System Management BIOS (SMBIOS)
The SMBIOS Specification addresses how motherboard and system vendors present management information about their products in a standard format by extending the BIOS interface on x86 architecture systems.
    Desktop Management Interface (DMI)
DMI generates a standard framework for managing and tracking components in a desktop pc, notebook or server. Due to the rapid advancement of DMTF technologies, such as CIM, the DMTF defined an "End of Life" process for DMI, which ended March 31, 2005.
    Configuration Management Database Federation (CMDBf)
The Configuration Management Database Federation (CMDBf) standard facilitates the sharing of information between configuration management databases (CMDBs) and other management data repositories (MDRs).
Platform Management Components Intercommunication (PMCI) Standards
The PMCI standards provide a comprehensive, common architecture for intercommunications among management subsystem components.
